The base GX comes standard with keyless entry, heated power side-view mirrors with indicator lamps, auto-off headlamps, rear spoiler, body-coloured door handles, tilt and telescoping steering column, air conditioning, cruise control, four-speaker AM/FM/CD player with USB port, push-button start, and 60/40 split folding rear seats. While the larger engine can be had with front- or all-wheel drive, only a six-speed automatic is offered. With 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque, it’s one of the segment’s more powerful options, and offers a sizable boost in performance over the entry-level motor. GS and GT trims come with a larger 2.5-litre direct-injected engine sourced from the midsize Mazda6 sedan. It can be had with front-wheel drive and paired to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic, or, with all-wheel drive where it is mated exclusively to the automatic. GX models continue to be powered by a 2.0-litre direct-injected four cylinder that makes 155-hp and 150 lb-ft of torque and is shared in common with the Mazda3. The CX-5 is available in three trims, GX, GS, and GT. Those who designed it clearly had driving enjoyment as a priority. Its handling and ride have a balance that no rival can touch. ![]() But what really sets the CX-5 apart from its rivals is the way it takes to the road. ![]() ![]() Although not especially stylish, the cabin is nicely finished with straightforward controls. Like many of its similar-sized rivals, the CX-5 offers buyers more interior and cargo space than a standard compact hatchback not to mention a better vantage point on the road.
